We are super excited to welcome our newest team member & dental hygienist, Laura Cortez. You may have already met her but if you haven’t, let us tell you why you’re missing out…
After finishing her clinical rotations through the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, Laura was working 3 part-time hygiene jobs in Iowa: a small one doc office, a mobile unit that took her to nursing homes in the area, and a larger more comprehensive dental practice.
“I ended up taking a 3rd part-time job at a different and much larger office in Muscatine, Iowa,” Laura recounts. “I was able to bounce ideas off other hygienists so that was nice. Hard to believe I worked all 3 jobs before I moved to Austin.”
In April of 2017, Laura moved to Texas to join our team full-time and be closer to her boyfriend. And if you’re going to be in Texas, why would you want to be anywhere but Austin?
“My best friend is my boyfriend; he is the main reason I moved to Texas,” Laura tells us. “And I am loving Austin so far! There are so many places I still need to explore. I like how dog-friendly the area is. I have two small dogs I left back home with my parents because I wasn’t sure if they’d adjust well here. But now, I think they need to come live with me!”
Although she’s enjoying Austin, she does miss her family back in Iowa. We are trying to convince her to go visit her family, pick up those dogs and bring them home. How cool would it be to have an office pet?
“I am a very family-oriented person,” she told us. “I love spending time with my parents and my sister. My sister is my travel buddy. We have literally gone across the world together!”
As she settles into a new role in a new city, between yoga & kickboxing classes, Laura is dreaming about her future as a business owner and opening her own dental hygiene office in Colorado.
“I want to be remembered as a strong woman who didn’t let anything get in the way of her dreams.”
Oh, now you’re sold on our new hygienist? We knew it! Call us today to schedule your cleaning with Laura – we promise you’ll love her as much as we do.
